Tema (G/A), May 6, GNA - The Tema Traditional Council has announced that the ban on noise making in the Traditional Area starts from Friday, May 8, and would end on May 29.

The Council made the announcement in a press release signed by Nii Adjei Kraku II, the Tema Mantse and President of the Tema Traditional Council and copied the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.

The release urged the public to observe the period with the reverence it deserves.

'This is a sacred period, which precedes the annual Homowo festival of the chiefs and people of Tema, and every person or group of persons residing or operating any business within the area is expected to avoid making any form of noise including playing of music or musical instruments, clapping, shouting and drumming,' it said.

The Council also directed that all funerals within the Traditional Area be suspended until the ban had been lifted.

'To this end, it is important to indicate that pecuniary and punitive sanctions will be meted out to any person or group of persons in the Traditional Area who will go contrary to this directive,' the release indicated.

The Tema Traditional Area consists of Tema Newtown and all the 23 communities as well as Ashaiman, Adigon, Adjei Kojo, Klangon, Kubekro, Saasabi, Sakumono and Zenu.
