Some concerned members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bantama constituency of the Ashanti region, has petitioned chairman of the ongoing vettings to disqualify the incumbent MP, Hon. Kwabena Kokofu, in his attempt to contest again as MP or they will seek court redress.

The petition signed by Matthew Osei POKU and Kofi Adu, leading members of NPP indicated that documents available to them revealed Hon. Kokofu owes huge sums of money to banks and institutions with his company MEEK AND MILD.

They explained that, "under the 1992 constitution, anybody who is bankrupt cannot hold any public Office".

"That we are also aware that, one of the Rules and regulation of the electoral commission on parliamentary election is that, anybody who is bankrupt cannot contest any public election".

The members are therefore, drawing the attention of authorities to investigate their claim and ascertain the truth of it.

The petitioners are demanding outright disqualification of Hon. Kokofu from the parliamentary race, if the said claims are indeed found to be true.

So far, only one person, Mr. Daniel Boateng, has expressed interest to contest the incumbent MP in the paliamentary race at Bantama.
