THE KORLE Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) last week joined the management of the hospital to clean up the entire facility as part of their contribution to a cleaner environment.

The exercise which coincided with the National Sanitation Day exercise saw participants undertaking various cleaning activities from sweeping and repainting the road signs to weeding over grown grasses and scrubbing the floors of the hospital.

Dr Gilbert Buckle, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), said the exercise goes to testify the oneness of the hospital for a common purpose.

He said Korle Bu as a health institution has been preaching sanitation and healthy living, adding that it was time the staff demonstrated what they preached.

'I give the credit to KOSSA who brought the idea and have worked with the support of management and other institutions to make it happen,' Dr Gilbert said.

He said the management intends the exercise to be a yearly affair where every staff would clean the hospital as a commitment to their institution during every Workers Day celebration.

Charles Nii Kwadu Ofei-Palm, President of KOSSA, said the event was to mark the first anniversary after their request for change in leadership of management was met by government.

'Last year by this time, Korle Bu was in turmoil but our request was met so a year on now we have a new leadership so we thought we should do this clean-up as part of our appreciation to make patients feel more at home,' he said.

Mr Ofei-Palm said the exercise attests to the fact that if there is a common position between management and KOSSA, Korle Bu can move forward.

'This is the beginning of the Korle Bu by cleaning the hospital and giving it a good image,' he said.
