Employment and Labour Relations Haruna Iddrisu has given the strongest indication yet that the impasse between union workers of ADB and management would soon be resolved to protect the bank’s corporate image.

The minister told Joy News’ Elton Brobbey he was “confident and optimistic” there would be a road map to resolve the issue in order to safeguard the interest of customers of ADB and the best interest of the country.

The workers who are fighting management of its decision to sell the company’s headquarters building say government must compel the Managing Director Mr. Stephen Kpordjih to proceed on leave while government investigates allegations of corruption at the bank.

The staff began hoisting and wearing red bands Monday as they prepared for full scale industrial action.

Employment and Labour Relations Haruna Iddrisu told Joy News’ Elton Brobbey the workers have resolved to soften their stand after a meeting with him on Tuesday.

Government said it will probe their concerns with management's decision to sell the bank’s headquarters building.

“Government has engaged the management of ADB and also further with the union leadership of ADB at the instance of President Mahama to seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict which is endangering the corporate reputation and integrity of ADB.

“...both parties have agreed to meet by close of work tomorrow on the way forward in restoring full normalcy of the operations of the bank whilst legitimate concerns and issues restored.”

Both parties have resolved not to resort to the press in addressing the issue, Mr. Iddrisu said.

However, John Esiape, General Secretary of the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) said the workers are yet to enter into an agreement for a truce with management.

“We have no such agreement yet. We are still meeting the minister tomorrow for further discussions so we haven’t come close to backing down yet,” he said.
