Mogadishu (AFP) - US Secretary of State John Kerry said war-torn Somalia was facing a better future Tuesday during a ground-breaking visit as the most senior US diplomat to visit since the doomed 'Black Hawk Down' incident of 1993 in which 18 US troops died.

"More than 20 years ago, the United States was forced to pull back from your country," Kerry said in the capital Mogadishu, adding that now the "country is turning around."

"Now we are returning in collaboration with the international community and bearing high hopes but also mixed with ongoing concerns," he added.
