THE ASHAIMAN Police have recorded a total of 5, 846 cases last year as against 5, 776 cases which came to the notice of the police a year before.

According to statistics from the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command, the Divisional Police had an increase of 70 cases with the highest said to be assaults and misdemeanours which happened within the municipality for the last two years.

A total of 12 murder cases befell the Ashaiman Police last year as compared to 17 killings reported in 2013.

Robbery came with 139 cases in the year 2014 matched with the 144 cases which were handled by the police in 2013.

On sexual assault incidents, defilement had 46 in 2014 and 79 in 2013, likened to rape which was lodged 18 times last year as against six in the previous year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Jonathan A. Adams-Godoe, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, made this known at the 2014 West African Security Association (WASSA) held at the Ashaiman Divisional level.

He attributed the reduction in serious crimes to arrest the of gang leaders of armed robbery syndicates, noting that 'these successes were not achieved on a silver platter. Some of our men have lost their lives or have been maimed permanently through these activities. Others have sustained various degrees of injuries.'

ACP Adams-Godoe added that the achievements were based on swoops and effective patrolling undertaken by the police to contain the robbery menace in the municipality.

He showered praises on informants whose efforts of releasing vital information helped in tracking down criminals.

The Ashaiman divisional police commander urged police personnel in the Divisional Headquarters to put up their best to protect lives and property for the public to go about their duties freely.
