The Nkpor Mantse (Chief of Nkpor), a community of the Nungua Traditional area in the Greater Accra region, Nii Bortefio Bortekwei Afadi-NsroI has identified education as the number one critical elementfor the socio-economic development of the nation.

According to him education brings about enlightenment to the masses by enabling them to identify themselves and decipher from the opportunities available to them.

“An educated people are able to make very informed choices to in order to enhance their living standards and positively affect the rest of society’’ he observed.

Speaking to The Insight about his vision for the development of his community, NiiAfadi-Nsro Isaid education was his topmost priority and expressed readiness to work in collaboration with other chiefs in the Nungua community to ensure that every child of school going-age is in school.

The Chief who assumes the throne recently said he would work with all relevant stakeholders including educational authorities to set up an Educational Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for brilliant but needy students.

He disclosed he would also support efforts of the central government to provide meals for pupils in order to keep them in the classroom.

NiiAfadi-Nsro I known in private life as Alexander Boyefio challenged young people to avail themselves in chieftaincy in order to influence decision making.

According to him, the time for the youth to get involve in chieftaincy is now whiles the older generation provides guidance in order to move the chieftaincy institution forward.

NiiNkpor advocated for the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to modernize the chieftaincy institution.

On health the NkporMantse expressed deep concerns about the high rates of maternal mortality and breast/ cervical cancer related cases in the country and promised to work with his people to create the necessary awareness campaigns to help save lives, especially of women and young girls in the area.

NiiBortefioBortekweiAfadi-Nsro I promised to organize a six (6) month regular breast/Cervical Cancer Screening exercise for his people to reduce the occurrence of cancers in the traditional area.

The NkporMantse also indicated his commitment and determination in the fight against insanitary conditions in the traditional area and urged government and other stakeholders to invest in waste management in the area.

He pledged his outfit’s readiness where possible to provide land for any such project that would bring relief to his people and urged all to live healthy lives in order to avoid preventable diseases.

NiiAfai-Nsro I also expressed worry about the recent sea water Desalination Project inaugurated by the President in the Nungua traditional area.

Water from the plant he stated still tastes very salty and urged authorities involve to intervene as a matter of urgency.
