The Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nkwanta North Constituency of the Volta Region, has allegedly shot his brother-in-law over a domestic dispute.

The police at Kpassa, the district capital, have therefore launched a manhunt for the NDC stalwart who is currently reported to be on the run.

The suspect, 37-year-old Gado Ninsaw Yakubu, prior to shooting his brother-in-law, Issaka Dawuda, had purportedly beaten his wife, thereby incurring the wrath of her relatives.

The victim, a 33-year-old taxi driver, is currently responding to treatment at the St. Joseph Hospital at Nkwanta.

The Nkwanta District Police Commander, Supt. Joseph Ackah, who confirmed the incident to the media, said the incident happened on Thursday, April 21, 2015.

The victim, Issaka, and one other sibling, according to the police officer, were returning from the hospital after sending their sister – who is the wife of the suspect – to the hospital. The suspect had beaten the pregnant wife over a misunderstanding and abandoned her at home.

Apparently, the suspect was incensed by the gesture of his in-laws and subsequently confronted them.

This resulted in a scuffle. Gado Yakubu, who is a circuit supervisor of the Ghana Education Service (GES), allegedly left and returned with a firearm and fired it at Issaka, wounding him on the back and was rushed to the hospital.

Sensing danger, Yakubu reportedly fled the area and has since not been seen. Supt. Joseph Ackah, who called on the public to assist arrest Yakubu, disclosed that his (suspect’s) wife had since given birth.
