Woman In Labour Sacked For Not Shaving

A MIDWIFE at Koforidua Zongo Health Centre, a suburb of the New Juaben Municipality in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday evening allegedly turned away a woman in labour for failing to shave off the hairs around her private parts.

Bushira Safinau, 25, was reportedly ordered by the midwife to go home and shave off the hairs before she could be assisted to deliver at the health centre when she got there for delivery.

Not even her pleas for assistance while in excruciating pains moved the heart of the midwifery.

Unable to bear the discomfort and pain, she turned to go back home but delivered on her way along a gutter with the assistance of some Good Samaritans around who heard her screaming and rushed to her rescue.

The incident has infuriated members of the Zongo community in the area who have threatened to deal ruthlessly with the midwife for acting in a very unprofessional manner.

An opinion leader, Mallam Yahaya, told DAILY GUIDE that the unavailability of professional hands to assist pregnant women in the municipality during the delivery had resulted in a lot of maternal deaths.

He added that the midwife responsible for the insensitive action should not be allowed to go scot-free.

However, the New Juabeng Municipal Health Director, Dr Kwaku Senaya, when contacted stated that his outfit had set a team to investigate the allegations.
