Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson says President Mahama’s comment on businesses in the country has been misrepresented.

President Mahama during the May Day celebrations opined that “smart” businesses are not laying off workers, but were rather investing to improve production capacity.

These companies, he said, were investing because they had faith in the ability of the government to end the power crisis and improve the country’s electricity generation capacity.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a rebuttal, said the sentiments of the President betray a deep lack of sensitivity and sympathy for Ghanaian businesses and companies in these trying times.

According to the NPP, the President was simply saying that, Ghanaian businesses were simply not being smart, and had no faith in the government.

In an interview on Okay FM’s morning show Monday, Mr. Lawson appealed to Ghanaians not to take the President out of context since he was only commending and praising the businesses.

He indicated that the president meant that in spite of the power crisis that has crippled most businesses in the country; they have been able to strive high.

“Don’t take the President out of context because he was only praising the remaining businesses who didn’t lay off their workers,” he stated.
