General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) of bias, claiming he was prevented from contributing to discussions at a Corruption Conference last week..

Johnson Asiedu Nketia who revealed this on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Monday said after speakers were done with their deliberations and the floor was opened for contributions, he tried to comment by was prevented from doing so.

This he said, is a clear indication that the IEA is a New Patriotic Party (NPP) sponsored institution.

The conference gained government attention after its speaker and President of Central University College (CUC), Prof Kwesi Yankah tagged the presidency a safe haven of corrupt officials

“The Presidency is perceived to have become a comfortable refuge for officials suspected to have been involved in corruption and are under investigation…,” Prof Yankah said at the event.

But Asiedu Nketia noted that as the Chairman of a platform of General Secretaries, it would be appropriate to include him in their contributions but found it very shocking when he was prevented from expressing his view.

He said comments from various speakers show that they are affiliated to the opposition party “who want to destroy the NDC”.

“Even when they called for contributions after speakers were done speaking, they didn’t allow me to speak and I didn’t understand why they did that to me. Their attitude showed that they had an agenda and I believe that the IEA works with the NPP,” he noted.

He said they will meet with representatives of the IEA to see the way forward as far as their concerns with corruption at the presidency is concerned.

“We want to know why the IEA have tagged us as corrupt and so they need to explain to us. Even a little girl can identify that people who spoke on the corruption issue were NPP,” he stated.
