Misogynistic Alhaji Halidu Haruna Must Be Dislodged From The Presidency!
04.05.2015 LISTEN

There is no gainsaying the kind of relevance women wield in the socio-economic development of any nation, not excluding Mother Ghana, and a great deal of reverence must be accorded our women by all and sundry and at all times.

Notwithstanding this sacred as well as worthy cultural norm, some politicians, by virtue of the positions and responsibilities entrusted into their hands in government, for some grotesque reasons, have allocated to themselves the duties of making some ladies their obssessions or preoccupations by heaping venomous yet, undeserved insults on them. Instead of paying homage to women as direct offsprings of our male counterparts, some unscrupulous charlatans devote their leisure hours treating us with utter disdain!

In their decisions to take a swipe at the dismally abysmal showing of the Mahama-Amissah Arthur administration, with particular reference to the ever-worsening power crisis which has wreaked immeasurable havocs on businesses, homes and other establishments, screen icons Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson took to social media to air their frustrations.

While we believe not everybody would hail these daughters of bravery and beauty for objectively criticizing President Mahama, we also are of the firmest opinion that dissenting views and opinions should be measured to reflect the democratic credentials Ghana is widely known for. Alhaji Halidu Haruna, one of the presidential staffers walking the corridors of the Flagstaff House, in his bid to express a counter opinion to what these two beautiful ladies have opined, ended up labelling them whores.

Halidu, in his jaundiced, yet warped view, postulated that these celebrities and their contemporaries within their 30s with no men to display as husbands are engaged in naked prostitution just to keep body and soul together.

United for Change Movement Ladies Caucus, finds these effusions from Alhaji Halidu Haruna rather nauseating, odious, pugnacious, virulent and menacingly repugnant! Such brutish as well as zoological thoughts belong to the tenth century, not this era! It is heartrending, blasphemous and sacrilegious for a presidential staffer to tread this unmotorable road whose destination is bringing the name of the seat of government into disrepute.

We also find it extremely baffling that the gender ministry has refused to openly chastise this clownish as well as oafish behaviour of a man who should have known better!

More so, Nana Oye Lithur's deafening silence over this repulsive and uncouth disposition of Halidu Haruna is more paradoxical to us than perplexing as this woman, prior to 2009, took the erstwhile NPP administration on, whenever gender related issues cropped up. Oye Lithur's posturing is at variance with her stance prior to her appointment as a minister, and as women, we feel let down.

The inference from Halidu's otherwise fleeting yet shameful assertion points to the man labelling Joselyn Dumas, Yvonne Okoro, Efya, Becca and their friends prostitutes on the flimsy reason that they have chosen to remain single. Who tells Alhaji Halidu Haruna that marriage is a priority of every woman? Where from this childish notion that every lady within her 30s must get married at all cost, and failure to adhere to that system is testament enough to accord a lady the title he so childishly wants to coin for them?

If this infantile analogy is to be pursued, then one wouldn't be far from right to conclude that all the innocent ladies sympathetic to the course of the NDC, and in their 30s also deserve this objectionable tag! That would be so unfair to these young women! Who educated Halidu that marriage is an automatic passport to a life so dignified and meaningful to the extent that one is insulated from engaging in acts considered to be morally vexatious? This misogynistic tendencies belong to a past millions of years ago, not this modern world.

The seemingly tearful apology rendered by Halidu can best be described as pretentious, in fact, it is a mere facade!

United for Change Movement Ladies Caucus demands immediate and unequivocal retraction of the abhorrent statement Alhaji Halidu Haruna has passed, and give an unqualified, yet, unpretentious apology to Yvonne Nelson, Lydia Forson, Joselyn Dumas, Yvonne Okoro, Becca, Efya and all the ladies in Ghana who have attained 30 years and are yet to marry.

We also ask President Mahama to do the needful by expelling this misogynist from the presidency to serve as a deterrent for others to measure dictions when passing comments over issues related to women.

Our dejected souls would only be satiated if Alhaji Halidu Haruna is disgorged from the position he occupies! Thank you.
