Suspects who stripped old woman naked arrested

Koforidua, May 2, GNA - The Eastern Regional Command of the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), has arrested a unit committee member; Kofi Yirenkyi accused of involvement in beating and striping naked a 75 year old woman in public.

The incident happened at Dawu-Sanfo in the Akuapem North District.

The suspect has so far been granted a police enquiry bail while investigations continue for the arrest of other suspects.

The old woman, Madam Elizabeth Odi denied an accusation by a fetish priest in the town of hiring assassins to kill his younger brother; however she was beaten up and stripped naked by young men in the town.

Her two- room house was razed down while her farm was destroyed.

The old woman was rescued by her daughter and brought to Koforidua where the matter was reported to the Police with the support of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Regional Director of the Department of Women.

Briefing the GNA, the Regional Coordinator of DOVSSU, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eunice Annor, said the suspect was identified by the victim as the one who allegedly provided the youth with tools to destroy her house.

According to her, intelligence report indicated that, some of the suspects fled the town for fear of being arrested.

DSP Annor gave the assurance that the police would ensure that all suspects involved in the case are arrested and made to face the law.
