The Second Lady, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, has donated a quantity of medical equipment and supplies to the Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital in Kpando Municipality of the Volta region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur said as part of her effort to help take care of the needs of people in hospitals, in her owns small was donating by adding to what government has being doing over the years, so decided to donate her widow's mite in medical equipment and supplies to deprived health facilities all over the country.

She said was happy to make the presentation towards helping improving the health status of the people in the area and commended the health workers for their contribution to quality health care of the residents of the hospital and for their dedication to duty.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur praised the hospital staff and members of the municipality for not recording any cholera death last year; something that she stated was very encouraging and called for the need for them to sustain it by practicing good hygienic conditions in the municipality. Adding Government would, however, continue to provide quality health care to Ghanaians.

Mr. Emmanuel Hanson Torde the Hospital administrator of the Margret Marquart Hospital received items on behalf of the hospital thanked the Second lady for her kind gesture.

He said, the mission of the hospital is to provide quality patient focused health care in an effective and efficient manner through personal and infrastructural development and the development of innovative ways of masking health care affordable to the poor and marginalized.

He, therefore, called for urgent attention to improve the facilities of the hospital. This hospital in Kpando was established by the German physician Margret Mary Marquart in 1960. There is an outpatient department, a pharmacy, a laboratory, an x-ray department, a morgue, an eye clinic, a public health unit, an HIV/AIDS clinic and a canteen. There are also four wards: a medical ward, a surgical ward, a maternity ward and a children’s ward. There is currently one surgical room and the hospital is working on opening a second room where only gynecological surgeries will be performed. The hospital has access to an ambulance which is mainly used to transport severely ill patients to the regional hospital or more specialized hospitals in Accra.

He also Praised the Medical Director of the hospital together with her team to Dr Lucy Hometowu and her able team in reducing maternal health care death in the Municipality and reduced the regional figure and eventually affected the national figures positively.
