The Abirim constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region have asked the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Esther Obeng Dapaah, not to contest again in the upcoming primaries slated for June 13.

Joseph Acheampong, Abirim NPP constituency chairman, on Wednesday made this disclosure to the media when one of the parliamentary aspirants, Ing. Daniel Kwadwo Afirifa, stormed the party office to file his nomination forms.

The chairman claimed, “We have asked our MP to step aside and allow others to go since we have surveyed and seen that she will lose the parliamentary seat to the NDC in the 2016 general elections, if she contests again.”

According to Mr Acheampong, Ms Esther Obeng Dapaah had won the seat three times and that she told the party members sometime ago that she wouldn’t contest any longer and so they wondered why she was still joining the race.

Mr. Acheampong explained that the entire party executives and council of elders had a meeting last month with Ms Dapaah and told her to step down and allow someone else to continue the good works she had done for the party.

“Everywhere we go the grassroots are complaining that we should ask Esther to step aside,” the chairman posited.

“We need power not candidate, so we pleaded with her to step aside, but she failed to listen to us and has picked and filed the nomination forms.

We are not against her or preparing the ground for somebody, but the ground is not good for her; we even doubt if she will win the upcoming primaries,' Mr. Acheampong stated.

So far, five people – Ing Daniel Kwadwo Afirifa, Michael Sefa, John Osei Frimpong, Christen Antwi Frimpong, including the incumbent Esther Obeng Dapaah – have picked and filed their nomination forms.

When contacted by DAILY GUIDE via telephone, Ms Obeng Dapaah commented, “My Redeemer lives so I don’t care about what they are saying. I will win the primaries hands-down, and bring victory to the NPP come 2016.'
