Fumesua, (Ash), April 30, GNA - Dr Victor Kwame Agyemang, Director-General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has lauded the staff and management of the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG) for their hard work and dedication, which had helped position the Institute as one of the best forestry research centres in Africa.

He pointed out that FORIG continued to enjoy this enviable feat not only within the CSIR community, but on the global scene due the hard work, dedication, sacrifices and unity of purpose of the staff.

Dr Agyeman was speaking at a ceremony to induct into office the newly-appointed Director of FORIG, Dr Daniel Aniagyei Ofori, and to introduce him to members of staff at Fumesua, near Kumasi on Monday, April 27.

Dr Ofori, 51 was appointed in 1991 as an Assistant Research Scientist, and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Director of the Institute in 2010.

He is a Professor of Forest Genetics, and is reputed to be one of the fastest to have climbed the ladder to the grade of Chief Research Scientist in CSIR.

Dr Agyeman congratulated the new director, and urged the staff to support him.

Dr Ofori enumerated his plans and said his focus would be to develop extensive network and partnerships, both locally and internationally, to attract resources to fund research activities that would be responsive to national priorities.

He pledged to work together with the staff to transform the Institute into a world class research centre, and commercialize its activities to generate enough local resources to fund some of its activities.

The staff pledged to work hard and support him to further push the Institute to another level.
