No Police Escort For JJ

The office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has dismissed reports that the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings uses police escort.

'The attention of the office of H.E. Jerry John Rawlings has been drawn to reports and commentary in some circles that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings enjoys the luxury of police outriders and regularly travels from Adjiringano to the central business district under police escort,' the office said in a statement.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the former first family, Mrs. Rawlings drives to the central business district daily without any police escort.

However, the statement said 'we are reliably informed it is rather one neighbour who enjoys the luxury of police escort to and from the Adjiringano/Trasacco area and not Mrs. Rawlings as has been erroneously portrayed.'

Mr Rawlings has in the past complained about the abuse of police escorts in the country.

On one occasion, he claimed the misuse of police escorts had become so widespread that the National Youth Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ludwig Hlordze had been using police escort.

Many political figures, especially the executive wing of government, use police escorts sometimes to the chagrin of the public.
