Unity Oil Boss Inducted

Dr. Kwame Kyei, Chief Executive Officer of Unity Group of Companies, has been recognized at the Ghana Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Awards for his contribution towards the promotion of economic growth and employment creation.

He was inducted into the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame alongside popular entrepreneurs like Prince Kofi Amoabeng of UT Bank, Togbe Afede of SAS Group, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, Kasapreko Company Limited; Dr. Theresa Oppong-Berko, Manet Group of Companies; Ernest Bediako of Ernest Chemist, among other successful business people.

The event, which was held at the Banquet Hall in Accra last Friday under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), was under the theme, 'Celebrating 5 years of honouring entrepreneurial excellence.'

The Hall of Fame award has been put together by Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG) – a non-profit private sector advocacy organization – to harness the power of entrepreneurship and innovation to grow the economy in a way that will lead to improvements in the living standards of the people.

It is seeking to build networks among entrepreneurs in their efforts to create a business environment that would propel Ghana's economy to greater heights.

The organizers also want the successful entrepreneurs to constitute a think-tank that will focus on promoting the interests of the private sector.

Dr. Kyei was particularly recognized for his business interests in oil marketing, broadcasting, hospitalities and private security in the economy.

He was also acknowledged for his immense contribution towards peace-building during general elections with his Unity Ministerial Fellowship, support for women and children, sponsoring education of brilliant but needy children and a host of other developmental programmes.

Sam Ato Gaisie, founder of the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana, said that the event was an important forum to inspire Ghanaians 'to take to the path of entrepreneurship and enhance the visibility of Ghanaian entrepreneurs and businesses in the country.'

After the event, Dr. Kyei told DAILY GUIDE that the time had come for successful entrepreneurs to conscientize and nurture the youth into productive ventures.

He admitted that even though the global economic outlook was not all-time favourable, there was the need to strive to keep businesses stable and sustain employment creation.
