The Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist Church has warned the General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to render an unqualified apology to the clergy for accusing them of hiding behind their cassocks to meddle in politics or face God's wrath.

According to Rt. Rev Bosomtwe Ayensu, it is time the NDC scribe is called to order for denigrating the clergy at every given opportunity.

The Methodist Bishop was reacting to Asiedu Nketia's call on the clergy to emulate the decision by some senior lecturers at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to campaign vigorously for the NPP in 2016.

The lecturers who call themselves KNUST NPP Frontliners, said they are putting resources together to mobilize intellectuals to, in their words, save a sinking economy.

This, General Mosquito, as he is popularly called, believe is time pastors in the country show their political colours and stop hiding behind the pulpit to champion the cause of their political parties.

But an incensed Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu on Adom News insists the comment by the NDC scribe is an insult to the clergy.

He said pastors are ordained by God to speak against “evil” in society and not to do politics.

“The pastors in politics are doing so because of their stomachs, they are doing politics to buy cars and look after their families but ministers are not to do politics for a fee...,” he stressed.

Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu said he feels sorry for Asiedu Nketia who according to him is speaking from an ill-informed position.
