The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Ghana has joined member countries on the world’s YWCA day, April 24th to celebrate the work and the women of the YWCA.

Mrs. Eunice Osei, past Youth Secretary and volunteer of YWCA said the YWCA has developed women‘s leadership to find local solutions to the global inequalities women face.

Each year, according to her, it reaches 25 million women and girls through work in over 20,000 communities.

Through advocacy, training and development, the YWCA empowers women including young women, to lead social change.

She said at this year’s YWCA celebration under the theme “celebrating our work and envisioning 2035”in Accra.

Mrs. Eunice Osei added the vision of the YWCA is a fully inclusive world where justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and care for the environment are promoted and sustained by women’s leadership.

General Secretary, YWCA of Ghana, Ms Angela Bannerman said in a statement as they celebrate the World YWCA Day reflect in what ways can they scale up their membership? How do they reach out to young women and girls in local communities?

How can they remain focused on the role of young women and girls within an intergenerational movement? How can YWCA ensure education and training opportunities for young women and girls? How can YWCA engage in government to ensure quality and affordable education for young women and girls? What creative models could enable YWCA to be financially independent in the future.

According to her, consultations are ongoing and they would be coming up with a paper by October outlining the key strategies and programmes that would enable them to continue to be relevant to our citizens and particularly women in the next 20 years.

She added the advocacy, youth leadership, women’s empowerment issues and education for the girl child will remain YWCA of Ghana’s focus.
