CPP marks Nkrumah's demise

Accra, April 27, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) on Monday marked the 43 anniversary of the death of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah the first President of Ghana with a clarion call for unity.

'The Nkrumah tradition believes that the vision of Osagyefo Dr Nkrumah founder of modern state Ghana never disappeared with his death; his vision and ideas has remained a guiding line for us for the past 43 years,' CPP said in a statement.

The statement signed by Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah, CPP Chairman and Leader and copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra recounted that on April 27, 1972 Ghana and Africa lost Osagyefo Dr Nkrumah few years after his over thrown in 1966.

The statement said: 'After the death of Dr Nkrumah many lost hope that Ghana will never be able to capture its economic independence. We are happy to announce to the world that Dr Nkrumah left a body of work that articulate his philosophy and ideology for freedom from exploitation, injustice and poverty.

'Today we draw strength from Nkrumah's vision to recapture the strategies that realised the Akosombo dam, Tema Harbour and township, hundreds of integrated industries, a de-tribalised society and a peacemaker in world affairs.'

The statement said: 'As Ghana mourns Nkrumah today; the Nkrumaist family calls on all Ghanaians to unite under one leadership to win political power and implement Nkrumaist policies to lift Ghana out of dependency, economic mismanagement and injustice.'
