SDA Church Appeals To Gov't....To Priortize Health Sector

The Tema North District Pastor, of the Seventh Day Adventists Church (SDA), Michael Kwabena Lowas, has appealed to government , to as a matter of concern channel more resources into the health sector, in order to promote healthy living among Ghanaians.

speaking to journalists last weekend, at the launch and distribution of a health and wellness book, at the Tema General Hospital, Pastor Lowas revealed it was high time goverment turned back to the health sector , since it was the only hopeful means to sustain the lives of the people living in the country.

According to him, government had for the past years relented on its efforts to facelift the National Health Insurance Scheme, and it had discouraged most subscribers from patronising it.

"it is our appeal as a church to government that he should invest hugely into the health sector , and that will be productive to us as a nation . I also take this opportunity to call on all stakeholders of health to amass support for the tema general hospital ..espercially on some abondoned projects ; that has stopped over the years, and lack of space leading to patients dying . i also appeal to goverment to put in better structures that would give the national health insurance scheme a new face, to enable the poor patronise the hospital", he added.

pastor Lowas further extended his call on government and the general public to as well consider the deteriorating condition of the Tema General Hospital over the years, and as a matter of urgency put all hands on deck to support the facility.

"our call on government is that though we are spending huge amount of money on building roads, schools, hospital and other things, health will be the paramount , because when you build the roads and all that, and those to ply the roads are dying of accidents because of lack of sleep or life style diseases, it will be in vain or useless .Besides if we build the hospitals and we dont incoporate into them, the preventive measures we can take to prevent ourselves as a nation from falling sick, or instead of going to the hospital , i think we need to be alert as a nation, and espercially to the government to put in more educational resources that will help to espercially educate the youth to be very passionate about their health." Pastor Lowas explained.

Pastor Dr. William Brown, the Guest Speaker at the launch , on his part also reiterated the need on the part of individual citizens to refrain from bad life styles that might attract certain unspeakable diseases.

according to him, it was a biblical calling as christians to glorify God with their bodies, and to be physically and spiritually well with him.

he said bad life styles like physical inactiveness , smoking, excessive alcohol intake and others were great contributors to cardio vascular diseases, like cancer, hypertension and heart failure, and however was very necessary to be cautious ones food and drink intake.

Dr. Williams, further used the occasion to caution the general public to modify their life styles in order to avoid communicable and other diseases.

"lifestyle diseases are preventable, for instance if i have cancer, it is possible that if i change my lifestyle ...if you have hyperytension, diabetes and other things and if you change your lifestyle, these things can all be taken away from your system," he added.
