Kumasi, April 27, GNA - A newly- completed five-bedroom house was in the afternoon of Sunday, April 26, razed down by fire at Oti, near Atonsu in Kumasi.

Household items running into millions of Ghana Cedis including mattresses, television and radio sets, standing and ceiling fans, woolly carpets got ravaged by the fire.

There were no deaths, however, one of the tenants whose name was only given as Reagan sustained burns on his back when he mustered courage and dashed into the blazing flames to retrieve his cash which he claimed had been trapped in his room.

He was later rushed to the Kumasi South Hospital at Atonsu for treatment.

Another tenant whose name was not immediately known, who had packed all his belongings to move from the house the next day, could not come to terms with the unusual twist of fate, is now quietly counting his loss as he lost all his property to the fire.

Mr Dominic Kumi, Station Officer II of the Chirapatre Fire Service Station briefing Ghana News Agency said his office received a distress call at about 1300 hours and immediately responded.

He said that it took personnel close to 35 minutes to douse the flames, but this came too late as the entire house had already collapsed because tenants attempted to put out the fire by themselves.

Mr Kumi said the fire started when the flames from a burning refuse dump behind the house spread to the house.
