Education programme on malaria for school children

Takoradi, April 27, GNA - Hope for Future Generations, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has launched a malaria education programme for children in deprived communities in eight regions of the country, Mr. Emmanuel Nuworzah, a volunteer of the organization, has disclosed

The beneficiary regions, he said, were the Volta, Western, Greater-Accra, Eastern, Brong-Ahafo, Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the commemoration of this year's World Malaria Day in Takoradi, Mr. Nuworzah said children were educated about malaria, and how to prevent the disease.

He said children were vulnerable to malaria, and the education was to help reduce the incidence of the disease among children.

Mr Nuworsah said malaria was the number cause of the absenteeism of children in schools, and the programme, was therefore, to bring about behaviourial change in children to take steps to prevent the disease.

He said school children must be educated about malaria because it affected their development, and added that the organization has programmes on tuberculosis maternal health and HIV for deprived communities in the eight regions. GNA
