Stop The Odd Comparisons Now!

Stop The Odd Comparisons Now!

I have often heard my brothers in the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) ludicrously comparing some happenings in the political camp of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to theirs if not, equating them to, as it were, earn some vacuous political points and to my utter chagrin.

This has compelled me to essay and chronicle some of these flash-points for the onward digestion of the general public and also serve as an eye-opener to would-be politicians who may want to copy those so mentioned because doing that, one may earn nothing, in my opinion, but odium.

In starting, one magnificent individual whose name keeps coming up as a good citizen of our time is the anti-corruption crusader, citizen vigilante, Martin Lamisi Hamidu, former Attorney General and minister of justice.

The former attorney general had to relinquish party and all, just to save Ghana from a gargantuan (his catch word) fraud perpetuated on the nation during the reign of late Prof. Atta Mills. It is not only the NPP that has acknowledged the fact that the former minister of justice did a yeoman’s job but Ghanaians as a whole. Mr Martin Hamidu deserves a pat on the shoulder.

Contrariwise, the NDC, in their bid to equalize and water-down the effect of Mr Martin Hamidu’s good-natureddisposition, quote the erstwhile communication director of the NPP Dr. Arthur Kennedy as a comparison of politicians who are patriotic to

Ghana and their party, bearing in their mind the book written by Dr Arthur Kennedy, ‘Chasing the elephant to the bush’ which seeks to expose errors that were supposedly committed by the NPP in its 2008 presidential and parliamentary election campaign, as a mark of objectivity at its best.

Essentially, many people, have vowed not to let Dr. Arthur Kennedy bask under the afterglow of his favourite book because, of it’s hypocritical content. The parallels are clear; Mr Martin Hamidu is scornful on corruption and frowns upon it and disassociates himself from his party as a result and continue to throw missiles at the NDC here and there when necessary whilst Dr Arthur Kennedy exposes his party’s internal operations to the general public and again going for a title ‘Chasing the Elephant to the Bush’ for his book, that is credited to the NDC, Mr Johnson Assiedu Nketia.

Consequently, Dr Arthur Kennedy, perceiving the enormity of his misdemeanour has been vainly trying to re-establish himself in the NPP as a trustworthy party pundit all these years to no avail. The word hypocrite has been indelibly stamped on the proverbial forehead of Dr. Arthur Kennedy by the NPP.

If I may add, a man who has been at the centre of intense calumny, innuendoes and insinuations by his political detractors in our political terrain is non but the most affable, meek, and straight-from-the-shoulder, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, brimming with homebred virtues.

My investigation shows that the man has Ghana at heart considering his speeches, benevolence and of course philanthropic zeal with which the man is known of. To cap it all he sees Ghana, as Ghana and is on bended knees when he thinks about the poor and penurious conditions prevailing in the northern part of Ghana. It will interest readers to

know that, The Northern Development Fund was the brain child of Nana as he is affectionately called. Obviously everybody knows the sad and ignominious story of SADA after the NDC stole the Northern Development Fund idea but failed woefully to implement it.

Fact is, how the NDC characteristically, changed Nana’s ‘All die be die’ comment to blind fold the unconscious Ghanaian into harbouring a dislike for Nana and for that matter the NPP is well documented and thank God the whole caboodle has become stale and insipid. Surprisingly, this has often been quoted as a rebuttal to Atta Mills’ Ghana will be like Kenya if he loses the 2008 General Elections. Indeed it was an obnoxious statement and deleterious to make at the time.

Nobody, including political goons, thugs and hoodlums will wish Kenya on anybody at that august time simply because it was as objectionable as the Kenyan situation was very dangerous.

I will not attempt to draw the curtains without appealing to my fellow compatriots in Ghana to give Nana a chance and see the difference in just four years. Actually, the electorate is getting sophisticated and very soon will be able to win now the proverbial chaff from the grain of political cajolery and wheedles.

Voters then will not be looking at how glib a politician is but famous and foremost, sincerity and honesty should be the cardinal principles.

Funnily, there are yahoo politicians who still want to flog the dead horse come 2016 by spreading their favourite political slogan ‘all die be die’ but this time round it will fall flat.
