North Haatso Police Post inaugurated

Accra, April 26, GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Police Service at the weekend inaugurated a new Police post at Haatso ECOMOG in Accra.

The facility was built by the North Haatso Residents Association to complement government efforts in providing sound security for the community.

DCOP Bonga noted that fighting crime is a shared responsibility and commended the association for the gesture, stressing that, there is the need for the communities to assist the police service in combating crime.

He said there is a wide security gap between the police personnel and the community since most estate developers are interested in putting up structures for human settlement without taking into consideration the security needs of the people.

DCOP Bonga urged the association to form a neighborhood committee to update the Police service with the needed information to aid them in their operations as well as enhance service delivery.

He urged the Police personnel to be professional in the course of their duty and not lord their position on the people since their presence is to serve the community and assured of their determination to fight crime in the area.

Mr Pius Kweku Addae, Vice Chairman of the Association said the police post idea was initiated in 2006 due to the rampant spate of armed robbery attacks, which created discomfort for the people in the community.

Mr Addae said the establishment is the 4th major infrastructural achievements by the association and would continue to assist the Police service to deliver on their mandate of ensuring peace and order.

He said the Association intends to coordinate among themselves to solve some pressing issues such as roads, drains and other environmental problems facing the area and called on all residents to come on board and assist.

Mrs Serah Adjoa Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency said security issues are a concern to her and commended the Association and the Police for initiating the project.

She said with support from UniBank, she would donate 160 motorbikes to the Kwabenya Police Station and would ensure that the new police post benefits from it to facilitate the work of the personnel.

Mrs Sarfo said she was able to secure 160 streetlights to the community to facilitate security and pledge an amount of GHc2000 and a promise to furnish the facility.

A speech read on behalf of Mr John Kwao Sackey, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Ga East Municipal Assembly said government would continue to collaborate with the community to ensure peace and order.

He appealed to the residents to cooperate with the Police by volunteering timely information to aid their work.
