The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation in partnership with Medshare, a non-governmental organisation based in Georgia, USA, has donated medical supplies and equipment worth $600,000 to three health facilities in Ghana.

This is part of the company’s social responsibility to the communities within which they operate.

Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital, both in Accra, and the Keta Hospital in the Volta Region all received a 40-footer container full of medical supplies and equipment.

At the donation to the Marie Louis Children’s Hospital, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa Limited, Ama Bawuah said the company is committed to improving the lives of the deprived and vulnerable in society.

“Coca-Cola has three main pillars when it comes to sustainability. We believe that the communities where we do business are essential to a successful business and these three pillars are wellbeing, women and children.”

“So under wellbeing we support healthcare, we support access to clean water and the donation exercise forms part of the wellbeing pillar,” she added.

Ms. Bawuah indicated that the company has since 2011 been donating such items to the three health facilities and hope to extend it to others across the country.

“We donate these equipment free of charge so that the hospitals will use them to generate revenue to enable them sustain their operations. This will continue for the next four years.”

Receiving the equipment, the Medical Superintendent at the Princess Marie Louis Children’s, Dr. Eric Sefah thanked Coca-Cola for supporting them for the past five years.

He revealed that they also donate some of the equipment to other hospitals like LEKMA hospital and Maamobi Hospital when they were in dire need of them.

Dr. Eric Sefah assured them that the equipments will be used for its intended purpose to improve the lives of patients at the hospital.

Just like Oliver Twist, he urged the management of Coco Cola to continue the kind gesture and also urged other corporate bodies to emulate their example.
