April 25, GNA - Compassion Ghana, a Christian based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) on Saturday undertook a cleanup exercise at the children's ward and the cardiothoracic centre of the Korle-bu Teaching hospital.

Members of the organisation also donated blood and presented assorted items comprising two hand sanitizing machines, toiletries, assorted drinks and variety of food items, worth thousands of cedis to the two wards.

The exercise forms part of activities of the NGO to mark its 10th anniversary celebration this year.

Mr Amos Safo, the Communications and Brands Manager of Compassion Ghana said, the NGO decided to carry out the cleanup exercise in the two wards because it was in a strategic partnership with the Hospital.

He said the NGO has supported a number of children with heart related conditions at the cardiothoracic centre for surgery.

Making the presentation, Mr Padmore Baffour Agyapong, the Country Director of Compassion Ghana said the staff of the NGO contributed towards purchasing the items.

He said Compassion Ghana currently supports over 58,000 children in Ghana, and assured hospital officials that his outfit would refill the hand sanitizer dispensing machines every quarter.

Dr. Mark Tettey, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, expressed gratitude to the NGO and its staff for the kind gesture.

He said the cleanup exercise was timely as the hospital did not have enough cleaners, adding that, they sometimes hire the services of cleaners to clean the wards.

He appealed to other organisations to emulate the gesture of compassion Ghana to improve hygiene and sanitation at the hospital.
