The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday, travelled to Abuja to pay a courtesy call on Nigeria's President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

The visit according to Nana Addo, was to congratulate General Buhari on his historic victory in the country's March elections.

Accompanying Akufo-Addo were Ghana's former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Rashid Bawa and Akufo-Addo's Executive Assistant, Saratu Atta. Supporters of the NPP in Ghana are optimistic that the outcome of Nigeria's fiercely-contested presidential elections will be replicated in Ghana.

According to them, the factors and circumstances which led to Buhari massive win presently exist in Ghana and will certainly favour Nana Addo in the 2016 presidential elections.

Buhari won the elections at age 72 after four attempts, while Nana Addo is making his third attempt at the Presidency at age 72.

They also listed the ages of the sitting Presidents of Nigeria and Ghana as one of the factors - Goodluck Jonathan and John Mahama who are both aged 58.

Also, Jonathan and Mahama took over the reins of power when their President's; Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and Professor John Mills died in office and both won their first elections.

But the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has rubbished these predictions saying, 'I don't see any such parallels between Nigeria and Ghana at all.'

He said the NDC is not afraid of losing elections, adding that 2016 election is not the NDC's 'main purpose of being in government.'
