Brakwa (C/R), April 24, GNA - A family of five, husband, wife and three children escaped unhurt, when their room caught fire at Brakwa in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District.

The cause of the outbreak has been attributed to electrical fault, which also affected the cables connecting the Brakwa Breman Rural Bank.

It took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service about three hours to fight it.

Properties destroyed included personal belongings and an undisclosed amount of money.

Mr Yaw Rawlings, a carpenter, in an interview told the Ghana News Agency that at about 1900 hours, he left the house and on his return in about 30 minutes time, saw a heavy smoke and heard people raising the alarm of fire.

He said the wife Madam Felicia Botwe told him that while she and the children were at the compound, their seven-year old daughter Maame Afua entered the room, in an attempt to go to bed, but detected flames and raised the alarm.

Mr Rawlings said personnel of the Fire Service were called, and with the support of sympathizers, fought the fire which destroyed the entire building.

He appealed to individuals and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the family. GNA
