Rainstorm renders over two hundred homeless

Nkoranza, April. 24, GNA - More than two hundred people have been displaced, following a severe rainstorm that ripped off the roofings of 47 buildings in three communities within the Nkoranza Municipality.

The communities are Donkro Nkwanta, Akropong and Dandwa where 12, 20, and 15 houses respectively were affected.

Mr. Evans Osei-Worae, Nkoranza Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that the local mosque and the Shining Star International School building at Donkro Nkwanta, were also affected by the disaster.

Mr. Osei-Worae further disclosed that his outfit had also recorded two domestic fires at Nkwaeso, Kantankani and Ahyiayem, also in the Municipality, involving 17 thatched houses, which had rendered 80 people homeless.

He said personal effects worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis, were destroyed in the communities as a result of the two incidents.

The Municipal NADMO Coordinator said there was no reported casualty from the two incidents.

Mr. Osei-Worae promised to send a report on the disaster to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of NADMO, for management to determine the appropriate assistance for the victims.

Mr. Stephen Kwadwo Adjei, a farmer at Nyinase, whose 50-acre cassava farm was destroyed by bushfire recently, appealed to the management of NADMO for some relief items to enable him rehabilitate his burnt farm. GNA
