Hlefi (V/R), April 23, GNA - About three hundred Junior High School girls who study in Community Information Communication Centres (CICs) in the Volta Region, are to vie for honours in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Quiz, as part of this year's 'Girls in ICT Day' celebration.

Thirty of them who would excel in the grand finale to be staged at the GNAT Secretariat in Ho on Tuesday, April 28, would be honoured at a grand durbar the following day.

Madam Patricia Dovi Samson, Director Research Statistics and Information Management of the Ministry of Communications (MOC), made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Hlefi in the Ho-West District.

She said the girls would be selected on competitive basis from 18 CICs whose Managers are attending a four-day Training- of-Trainers workshop on the special software developed by the Ghana Education Service for the competition.

Madam Samson said the competition, is under the auspices of the (MOC), in collaboration with the Ministries of Gender and Social Protection and Education.

She explained that the 'Girls in ICT Programme' was instituted by the International Communication Union, and driven by the MOC to build the capacity of JHS girls in ICT, and embolden them to become dexterous in the application of ICT in everyday life.

Ms Grace Yamoah, ICT Lecturer at the University of Ghana, advised the trainees to teach the girls the proper ways of using computer to avoid health risks.

She also advised them to be patient with the girls, because not all of them might have had the opportunity to try their hands on computers.
