A 27-year-old Nigerian is in the custody of the Tema Regional Police Command for allegedly possessing 65 parcels of compressed dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee).

The suspect, Ebuka Uchaadu, was arrested at the Asutsuare barrier on the Tema-Akosombo highway during a police snap check, with the items allegedly stashed in a second-hand clothes concealed in a fertiliser sack.

He was said to have bought the neatly compressed cannabis at Gemani in the Volta Region at È»2,400 and was allegedly transporting them to Accra before sending them to Nigeria when he was apprehended.

He was arrested on April 22, 2015 at about 7:40 am, aboard a passenger bus.

Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Juliana Obeng, said that the vehicle was stopped for normal police check to be conducted, adding that a search in the boot revealed the compressed parcels of the suspected wee concealed in the fertilizer bag.

She said the suspect claimed ownership of the items and was arrested.

She indicated that preliminary investigations showed that Ebuka Uchaadu was a businessman dealing in cosmetics in Ghana, but the business had collapsed.

He was said to have returned to Nigeria and met a friend who introduced him to the Indian hemp business.

On April 18, 2015, Ebuka Uchaadu reportedly arrived in Ghana and went to the Kantamanto market in Accra where he allegedly bought some second-hand clothes to conceal the Indian hemp before he left for Gemani where he purportedly bought the 65 parcels of the suspected narcotic drug.

The Tema Regional PRO commended the policemen on duty for their vigilance and bravery.
