KNUST Lecturers Joining NPP Shall Yield No Results In 2016

Press Statement KNUST Lecturers Joining NPP Shall Yield No Results In 2016
APR 22, 2015 LISTEN

We wish to reassure the good people of Ghana and sympathizers of the ruling National Democratic Congress that a declaration of support for the main opposition New Patriotic by some lecturers of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has no cause for alarm.

This is not the first time this same group of lecturers now called "KNUST NPP Frontliners" has openly declared support for the NPP and its flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo, yet it does not yield them any electoral results.

To us in the NDC, this rehashed declaration only goes to confirm that the strategies being executed by the NDC team in Ashanti Region towards attaining the declared one million votes in elections 2016 is biting and significantly impacting. "KNUST NPP Frontliners" is just a group of known NPP membership since 2008 that have consistently campaigned for the opposition party without success.

It would be recalled that in the run up to the elections 2012, a group known as "Intellectuals for National Development (IND)" emerged and openly supported and defended Nana Akufo Addo’s free Senior High School education policy.

They ended up failing to make any impact. The same disgruntled group has today re-organised to form "KNUST NPP Frontliners" under a new leader. The only difference between KNUST NPP Frontliners and "Intellectuals for National Development (IND)" is that Dr. George Mainoo who was the Communications Director for IND has been instructed quit his position while Dr. Kwabena Boadu is assigned to lead the new group.

Let me state that the NDC has over years proved that it is a robust mass political party to withstand any opposing affiliate groups even during our days in opposition.

In the heat of the elections 2008, various groups emerged and declared support for Nana Akufo Addo with the appointment of NPP’s most charismatic figure, Alan Kyeremanten as chairman for “Identifiable Groups” in the NPP’s campaignoffice, yet this did not help the party in power then and the NDC successfully wrestled power from them. Finally, going into elections 2016, we wish to assure all sympathizers of the government that the NDC will repeat victory and that there is no cause for alarm.

Signed,
Raymond Tandoh
(Regional Secretary, NDC)
