Accra, April 21, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) has begun Regional Conferences which would ultimately take the party to its National Delegates Congress to elect national leaders in preparation towards the 2016 general election.

The CPP Upper West Regional conference kick-started in the weekend in Wa, the Regional Capital.

A statement from the party signed by Mr Nii Armah Akomfrah, Director of Communications said the event began with visits by the party executives, led by the National Chairperson and Leader; Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah, to the Nandom Naa and other traditional leaders and to various places of interest.

A second team led by Dr Abu Sakara, the party's 2012 Flagbearer, attended a public lecture at the Nusrat Jahan College of Education and later called on the Wa Naa and Yere Naa.

They also granted interviews to various radio stations in the city and called on the region to give the CPP the opportunity to change the country into a land of opportunities for all.

The statement said on Saturday April 18, Dr Sakara and Professor Edmund Delle, a former National Chairman, welcomed Ms Samia Nkrumah, Mr Ivor Greenstreet, General Secretary; Hajia Hamdiatu Ibrahim, the National Women's Organiser and other national figures to the congress grounds at the GNAT hall where new regional executives were elected.

Mr Elyasu Yussif Baba was elected Chairman, Mr Seidu Mogtare, First Vice; Alhaji Yussif Liman, Second Vice; Mr Issahaq Suleman, Secretary; Mr Issahaku Jargu Sanda, Education Secretary; Ms Elizabeth Mounah, Women's Organiser; Mr Francis Baladong, the Organiser, and Mr Ishmael Yussif was elected Youth Organiser.

The party said the new executives were encouraged to continue strengthening cell branches in the region and to make the party more visible and attractive in the region.

'Cell organisation at polling and constituency level is key to the fortunes of the party and the national leadership has tasked all regions to make that a priority,' the statement said.

The next conference would the Northern Regional Conference, scheduled for May 9, to be followed by the Upper East Regional Conference.
