Regional Security Council are locked up in an emergency meeting following tribal clashes at Agbogbloshie onion market which left four people severely wounded.
The meeting is to consider plans to maintain calm and order after two tribes; the Dagombas and Zamrama clashed on Tuesday.
A 4-year-old girl was assaulted after she defecated at a particular portion of the Agblobloshie market. Her father's attempt to retaliate sparked the violence.
Police officers fired rubber bullets to dispel the crowd after some exchange of gunfire announced hostilities between the two groups.
The leaders of the tribal communities there were invited to the meeting chaired by Greater Accra Regional minister Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.
“They don't have any serious issue at all”, the Minister reported after the meeting ended. He said it was a youthful “scuffle”.
According to the Minister, the opinion leaders have pledged to behave well and look “very happy” after the meeting.
Joy News Kwetey Nartey reports that about 20 police officers are still stationed on the ground of the aggression to monitor the situation.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss Alfred Oko Vanderpuye is planning to create a buffer zone between the communities.
It is not known which form the buffer will take.
Among the injured was one person who sustained a crack in the skull while another nursed a swollen eye.
Two others would need the attention of a neurosurgeon, a principal nursing officer at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital revealed.
The principal nursing officer says they cannot go home at least not for today. We are detaining them for a specialist.
Joy News reported that it took the gracious on-the-spot contribution of some observers to pay for emergency treatment of the two.
