A violent rainstorm over the weekend left a trail of destruction in some communities in the Bekwai Municipality and Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, with some displaced people sustaining various degrees of injury.

While the roofs of some school buildings and houses were ripped off, many other structures including a community centre and markets were destroyed at Senfi and Pakyi no. 2 communities in Bekwai and Amansie West District respectively, amidst power cuts.

Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Mary Juantoa confirmed that some residents of Senfi were injured when their houses were hit by the violent rainstorm on the night of Saturday, indicating that the victims remained hospitalized at Dominase SDA Hospital.

According to her, several people and basic school pupils of Senfi Methodist Primary had been displaced by the rainstorm which ripped off the roofs of their houses and six-unit classroom block.

She pledged the Assembly's commitment to work together with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to bring reliefs to the victims.

An eyewitness, Nana Poku of Angel Fm, told DAILY GUIDE that many dwelling houses, community centre, markets and other structures were also destroyed by a similar rainy storm in nearby communities, including Pakyi No.2 in the Amansie West District on Sunday night.

He said, at Senfi, the situation had compelled the basic school pupils to study under trees as the Assembly looks forward to find solution to the problem.

He disclosed that that the affected people urged government to take immediate steps to enable them eke out a living when the Bekwai MCE and her able lieutenants paid a working visit to the areas.

Chief of Adumasa called on other residents to accommodate their neighbours who were displaced by the storm since the community was in trialing moment.
