Odumase-Krobo, April 20, GNA - Reverend Canon William Obiri, a retired reverend minister, has called for the establishment of an Association of Parent/Teacher Associations (PTAs), to help tap into the resources of communities to develop education.

He explained that such an Association could help communities to identify common challenges retarding education, and with the co-operation of parents, the education directorate and other stake holders, find appropriate local solutions to them.

Rev. Obiri was preaching the sermon at the first ever teachers' appreciation day service organized by the Transfiguration Anglican Church at Odumase-Krobo.

He made a special appeal to fathers to get involved in the education of their wards, by attending PTA meetings regularly to offer suggestions

He said due to constant changes in educational policies by various governments, some serious unintended challenges had developed in many areas, and urged parents to come together and offer their support to help create environment for effective teaching and learning.

Venerable Samuel Nii Moi Addo, the Archdeacon of the Odumase Krobo Archdeaconry of the Anglican Church, explained that over a year ago, rain storm ripped off the roof of the Odumase Krobo Anglican Primary and Junior High Schools, and efforts by the church to re-roof the building had not been successful.

He said despite conditions at the school, the teachers attended school regularly and so the church felt the need to demonstrate its appreciation to the teachers.

Venerable Nii Moi Addo, therefore, appealed to the old students of Odumase Krobo Anglican Primary and JHS, to come and support efforts at mobilizing resources to re-roof the school.

The chairman of the school's PTA, Mr E. T. Opata, said the school faced numerous challenges, but gave the assurance that the church was striving to solve them.

The Chairman for the occasion, Mrs Joyce Nyawonu, advised the teachers to work harder than before.

She also advised parents in the area to desist from confronting teachers for punishing their children who misbehaved in school.

Mrs Nyawonu also advised the pupils to respect their teachers.
