Airtel Ghana shortlists five for competition

Accra , April 20, GNA - Airtel Ghana has shortlisted five start-ups who would be competing for cash prizes and valuable legal, management and financial services, through Airtel's Catapult Your Business Competition.

A statement issued in Accra by Donald Gwira, Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said, the competition would present a platform for young women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to pitch a business idea for mentorship.

The statement said the short-listed start-ups are African Baby Centre, Afrocentric Bamboo Bikes, Wanjo, Trash Cash and Ohema Ohene.

It said a total of 10 start-up companies led by young women entrepreneurs impressed the audience made up of Airtel staff and a panel of judges with live demonstrations of their products, including the making of bamboo bikes, converting trash to cash, making delicious fruit juices and chocolate and selling online.

The statement said 10 companies were selected from the hundreds of start-ups from across Ghana and these were in turn narrowed down to five.

It said the five semi - finalists would be taken through a well-planned SME programme to equip them with the essential tools, knowledge and strategic planning advice to build their organizational capacity and position their start-ups to be investor-friendly.
