Chiefs advised to stop land/chieftaincy disputes

Nsawam (E/R), April 20, GNA - Mr Mark Amoako Dompreh, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nsawam Adoagyiri, has called on chiefs and opinion leaders of the municipality to put an end to chieftaincy disputes and land litigation.

Mr Dompreh was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after a visit to welcome home the people of Chinto who fled their community to neighbouring communities after the killing of their chief and his driver.

The late chief of Chinto, Nana Kofi Mankata, and his driver were shot dead by some unknown persons some few weeks ago.

The MCE also expressed his condolence to the bereaved families.

Mr Amoako said land litigation and chieftaincy disputes did not support any development but rather were a hindrance to development and sometimes ended up destroying people's property.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ben Atadana (Rtd), Chairman of the Justice and Security Sub-committee of the Nsawam-Adoagiri Municipal Assembly, appealed to the people not to feel insecure because the matter was being handled at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

Mr Atadana said criminal issues should be solved through the legal process by the courts.

He further called on players in the administration of criminal justice to make sure that nobody was denied justice adding; "where justice is denied, man is most brutalized".
