Some senior staff of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have stepped forth to mobilize intellectuals for active and open participation in frontline politics on the bill of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Under the banner, “KNUST NPP Frontliners”, the group has the goal of helping the opposition party to offer policy alternatives and ideas to help improve the country's socio-economic development.

“Our main aim is to organize KNUST NPP faithful who will serve as a think-tank ready to serve the party to win power in 2016 and beyond,” stated Dr. Kwabena Boadu, Chairman of group at the inaugural ceremony.

“Our vision is to be recognized as an elite group of supporters to influence policy direction. Our mission is to serve as an interface between the party and the electorate in explaining party policies and canvassing for votes”.

He has accused the ruling NDC government of being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians in addressing challenges in the critical sectors of the economy, including education, health and energy.

“With these very severe challenges, the intellectuals, the middle class can no longer sit and look unconcerned whilst our dear country gets into the abyss,” said Dr. Boadu.

According to him, members of the Frontliners will help the NPP to develop and implement better policies to salvage the “sinking economy”.

Statistics indicate the NPP has been winning in its stronghold but at a declining rate.

A National Vice-Chair of the NPP, Frederick Freduah Anto, says the trend gives credence to the NDC's hope of attaining one million votes and ten parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region.

He has therefore observed the need for the NPP to increase its winning margins by associating with the Party at the constituency level.

F.F. Anto wants the intellectual elite to make themselves relevant in the Party by coming up with critical analysis of political trends with the view to help the Party regain power in 2016.
