U.S. Special Representative Condemns Attack on UN Staff in Garowe
20.04.2015 LISTEN

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 20, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- U.S. Special Representative for Somalia James P. McAnulty condemns the despicable April 20 terrorist attack on United Nations staff, which included Children's Fund personnel dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Somalia.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those killed and injured. The United States joins the expressions of outrage in Somalia and abroad against this atrocious act. Today's attack in Puntland was, indeed, an assault not only on United Nations staff but on the people whom they courageously and selflessly served.”

Al-Shabaab's total disregard for human life continues to anger and appall the people of Somalia and the international community. This senseless attack demonstrates what al-Shabaab has proven, time and again -- that it stands only for murder, hatred, and destruction.

The Government of the United States of America reaffirms our commitment to support the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia and international partners to build a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Somalia.
