3rd NCCE Dialogue On Parliament In Accra On Thursday April 23
20.04.2015 LISTEN

Ghana is undoubtedly a nation in Africa that has made enormous progress in orderly development since 1992 when it began charting the path of democracy. This has become possible because under the Fourth Republican Constitution, the executive the legislature and judiciary have been given clear and separate mandates to exercise.

Besides those institutions there are other bodies such as the National Commission for Civic Education NCCE which has been given the mandate to sensitize the people on their rights and responsibilities under the constitution.

This has so far led to increase in the knowledge of the people of all ages about the constitution. For example in exercising its mandates the NCCE among other things organizes public functions in schools and neighborhoods among other places. One of the functions being organized by the NCCE is the quarterly dialogue series dubbed 'Engage, Educate and Empower'.

The dialogue is a platform created to work towards deepening citizens' understanding of Ghana's democratic process and empowering citizens to participate actively and effectively in the governance process and nation building as a whole. The dialogue series have become so popular that members of the public have asking for more.

The third (3rd) dialogue series is on the topic 'Effectiveness of Parliament in Ghana's democracy'. The upcoming event will be based on a study by the Commission on the work of the Legislature. The main discussants of the report are Honourable Alban S.K. Bagbin ,Majority Leader and Honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader.

The function to be held on Thursday April, 23 at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT will be participated by members of registered political parties, civil society organizations, religious bodies and the academia. The dialogue session is expected to be interactive to the extent of exchanging ideas on the topic of the day with the panel and the audience
