Statement From Nugs-china On The Xenophbic Attacks In South Africa

19.04.2015 LISTEN
By NUGS-China

I write on behalf of NUGS-China, with pain in my heart, to condemn in no uncertain terms the barbaric xenophobic attacks in South Africa the country we have for some time now called the Rainbow Nation.

It is very hurtful that those same African countries who sacrificed their lives, love and all to help liberate South Africa from the grips of Apartheid into peace progress and prosperity are the countries whose people are being called foreigners and without cause are being hacked, stoned to death and burned alive!

We have not only watched in awe how the statement of a Zulu traditional ruler, misconstrued or not, has led to the rise of the people against their fellow blacks who have hitherto lived in peace; but we have also watched in awe the delay in a National Action from the Arms of Government of South Africa in nipping these attacks in the bud.

We in NUGS-China wish to rise up and be counted, to make our voices heard in the appeal for a swift and decisive action from the Government of South Africa to solve the problem as further delay has the potential of a counter attack from affected Nations, as is already being witnessed in Mozambique.

We believe firmly in the independence declaration speech of our Founder Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on the 6th of March, 1957 when he stated that the Blackman was capable of managing his own affairs! This is the time, more than ever, that this statement must come alive and the leadership of South Africa must show the way. This is the time to show that Africa needs Africans to develop and March forward.

There is an Old Ghanaian Adage that says, 'One does not need a lantern at night in order to recognize a daytime acquaintance'.

Ghanaians, Mozambicans, Ethiopians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans and all the other Africans who in the spirit of Brotherliness stood side-by-side South Africa in time of need admittedly cannot be called foreigners or aliens today, because South Africa finds herself among the BRICS, can they?

Let the artificial borders imposed on us by our colonial masters not make us think that a divided Africa can stand. The crumbs that fall off the tables of our colonisers cannot be compared to what we can achieve together as a United Africa.

Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters who have been caught up in these attacks and we hope that Salvation will come soon to you and your families just as it did South Africa in their darkest days!

We also hope that South Africa will remember this day in history that they have been under oppression before, and should therefore know better not to become the oppressors of those who helped them out of same.

Africa! We owe it to ourselves and the world to show that we can hold our own and keep the Charge of equal rights for all.

God Bless You!
God Bless Africa!
Dr. Emmanuel Addipa-Adapoe (NATIONAL PRESIDENT, NUGS-China)
