18.04.2015 LISTEN

Four persons died while several others sustained severe injuries in a gory accident involving six vehicles on the Tema-Aflao Highway yesterday.

Two persons were reported to have died on the spot while the other two passed on later.

The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra pending autopsy.

Some injured persons were rushed to the Tema General Hospital.

Others were referred to the 37 Military Hospital and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for further medical treatment.

The six vehicles have been impounded by the police to assist with investigations.

Police personnel from the Dawhenya Police Station and the Prampram District Police Headquarters rushed to the scene to remove the injured from the mangled vehicles and commence investigations into the matter.

It took two hours for the road to be cleared which led to vehicular traffic on the highway.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul Mensah Bampo, the Prampram District Police Commander, who confirmed the accident to DAILY GUIDE, said last Friday at about 1:00pm the Toyota Hiace mini bus with registration number GM 3970-14 belonging to the Intercity STC Coaches Limited collided with a DAF articulated truck with registration number GE 6386 X, at a location opposite Top Oil filling station near Central University College (CUC) at Miotso in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra region.

He explained that the driver of the STC bus, which was moving from Aflao in the Volta Region to Accra, attempted to overtake a truck on that stretch.

According to him, unfortunately the driver of the STC bus was unsuccessful in overtaking the truck, thereby colliding with the DAF truck from the opposite direction.

He said two vehicles also got damaged in the process, adding the STC bus was damaged beyond repairs.

The commander noted that investigation was current ongoing.
