Andoh-Kwofie Goes Home Today

The mortal remains of Commissioner of Police (COP) Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, would be interred today at his hometown, Atonkwa, Elmina in the Central region.

He is expected to be accorded a full military burial, with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other schedule officers in the police service, including top government officials, expected to be in attendance.

Until his demise on Friday, January 9, 2014, COP Andoh-Kwofie, popularly known as Prof. was the Director-General in-charge of welfare in the Ghana Police Service.

There would be no wake-keeping.
The body would this morning be laid in state for people to file past at the SSNIT park in Elmina and later interred at the Atonkwa royal cemetery to be immediately followed by the main funeral at the same SSNIT park.

It is expected to be attended by people from all walks of life including politicians, academicians, students of the University of Ghana Business School where he used to teach professional accounting and those who attended his specially organised class at the SWOT Institute in Labone.

The funeral rites would finally be climaxed with a thanksgiving service the following day, Sunday, April 19, 2015 at SSNIT.

The one-week celebration was attended by people from all walks of life, including officers and men from the Ghana Police Service, politicians, academicians, legal and media practitioners, various professions, family, friends and loved ones.

Mr Mohammed Alhassan led a high-profile delegation from the Police Service to grace the occasion.

Also present was presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

The former COP Andoh-Kwofie passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 after he rushed to the police hospital.

He has been described by many as a kind-hearted gentleman.

He is survived by a wife, who is a serving police officer, Superintendant Faustina Andoh-Kwofie, three children - Araba, Paapa and Ato Andoh-Kwofie and two adopted children - Prince Adjei and Maame Afia Kisiwaa Kodua, who lived with him until his untimely death.

He was a native of Atonkwa, Elmina in the Central Region.

Prof, as he was affectionately called, was a celebrated chartered accountant who was knowledgeable in the field of accountancy.

He was a part-time lecturer in Accounting at the University of Ghana Business School - a position he has held for over 10 years and authored several unpublished texts in the profession.

The late Andoh-Kwofie also taught Financial Reporting at the SWOT Centre in Accra.
