Accra, April 17, GNA - The Management of Newmont Ghana Limited has been asked by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to review the interdiction of four of its workers.

A statement from the Ministry signed by Mrs Doris Yamoah, said Newmont workers should resume full-scale production with immediate effect and avoid a go slow or any action to sabotage operation at Newmont Ahafo Mine.

The statement said the decisions were taken at an emergency meeting convened with Management of Newmont Ghana Limited and the General Secretary of Ghana Mines Workers Union together with the Union of Newmont at the instance of the Minister, Mr Haruna Iddrisu

It said both "Management and Union Workers of Newmont will ensure harmonious industrial relations, as well as ensure safety of life and property".

"Both Management and Workers of Newmont are to abide strictly by the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) and avoid any illegalities" the statement said, and cautioned that any violations of the Labour Act will attract the appropriate sanctions."

It urged both parties to go back to the National Labour Commission (NLC), to resolve the present impasse in the on-going review of salaries and conditions of service for Newmont workers.
