A HERDSMAN and a steel bender have been put before an Accra Circui8t Court for allegedly stealing seven cows valued at GH'30,000 belonging to a businessman who left the cattle under their care.

The suspects: Divine Gbesogbor and his alleged accomplice Wisdom Ahiakor were instructed by the businessman and complainant Aryeetey Lomotey to take care of the cattle but warned that they were not to allow the cattle outside.

They were put before a court presided over by Yaw Atta Sampong and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

They pleaded not guilty and have been remanded in police custody while the case has been adjourned to April 29, 2015.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector W. Nyadikor are that the complainant Lomotey is a businessman and a resident of East Legon while Gbesorgbo is a herdsman and Ahiakor, a steel bender.

He said both accused persons live around High Tension around American House near East Legon.

According to him, on March 5, 2015 the complainant left the seven cows in the care of the herdsman and informed him that he (businessman) was travelling for a day and gave specific orders that the cows should not be left to roam.

The prosecutor noted that after the complainant went on his trip the herdsman called the steel bender and opened the gate and let the cows out after which he instructed the steel bender to allow the cattle to go grazing.

In addition, he stated that Ahiakor went out with the cattle and returned without them and when asked he noted that he left the animals to rest for a few minutes under a tree but when he opened his eyes the animals were nowhere to be found.

The prosecutor noted that when the complainant returned his cattle were nowhere to be found so he lodged a complaint with the police and the suspects were arrested.

He said investigations revealed that the suspect just left the cows and was relaxing and allowed the cattle to be stolen.

The police officer said the suspects were arraigned after police concluded investigations.
