An Accra circuit court yesterday handed a five-year jail term to a young driver for threatening to kill his lover, one Georgina Abatey.

The convict, Kwabena Gharmoh, could not stand the sight of his girlfriend dancing with another man at a party after an argument between them.

Charged with the offence of possessing fire arm without lawful authority and threat of death, the accused admitted the offence.

The trial judge, Justice Francis Obiri, sitting with additional responsibility as a circuit court judge, accordingly sentenced Kwabena to five years jail term on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Kwabena Adu said
on April 5, 2015, a misunderstanding ensued between Georgina and Kwabena at an outdooring ceremony of a baby at Agenda, near Omanjor, also in Accra.

Inspector Adu stated that whilst Georgina was dancing with a certain man, Kwabena rushed on her, pulled her from the man and started beating her.

According to the prosecutor, some bystanders came to rescue Georgina but the convict, unsatisfied with their intervention, pulled a locally manufactured pistol and threatened to shoot Georgina, but the pistol did not fire.

Inspector Adu said Georgina was whisked away from the scene to the police station where a report was made, leading to the arrest of her boyfriend.
