NPP Regional Chairman to apologize to President

Tamale, April 14, GNA - Mr Joseph Amuzu Ngmangnag, Northern Regional First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, NPP Northern Regional Chairman, to render an unqualified apology to President Mahama, and the Paramount Chiefs of Saboba and Nkpakpaando, for publicly denigrating their image.

This was contained in a press statement issued by Mr Ngmangnag and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Tuesday.

The statement said the recent utterances by Mr Naabu, which suggested that President Mahama's decision to address the concerns of the Konkombas, was tantamount to bribing them, and described it as very insulting to the dignity and intelligence of the people of Nkpakpaando.

President Mahama, addressing this year's Easter Convention of the Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) at Saboba in the Northern Region on Saturday, April 4, donated a tractor to KOYA and a pick-up vehicle to the Paramount Chief of Saboba.

The President also asked the Konkombas to remain patient because the low representation of Konkombas in the government would be addressed.

However, Mr Naabu described the gesture by the President as a political gimmick meant to bribe the Konkombas to 'buy' their conscience to support the government.

The statement said 'one would have expected that a seemingly concerned, loving and patriotic Konkomba like Mr Naabu would be proud and happy about the fact that his people's concerns have received some attention from the President, but in his usual fashion, suggested that President Mahama's decision to address the concerns of the Kokombas was tantamount to bribing them.'

It said Mr Naabu had been hiding under the veil of protecting the Konkombas, to vilify the NDC and the government, adding, 'the reality however, is that Mr Naabu is a faceless worm that wants to tear apart the unity of the Konkomba people'.

The statement said Mr Naabu's actions and comments, therefore, were a calculated agenda to promote his selfish political interest.

It questioned whether Mr Naabu's donation of GH¢500.00 to KOYA in 2014 and a subsequent pledge of an additional GH¢2, 500.00 which he was yet to redeem, also amounted to bribing KOYA and the Konkombas.

The statement said Mr Naabu had realized that his attempts to weaken KOYA by forming the Konkomba Development Association (KODA), had failed, the reason he was using the President's gesture as a basis to attack him and the government.

It said the Konkombas had realized that it was only the NDC government that could address their interests, and they would continue to support the President and his government as they worked to address the concerns of the Konkombas, and Ghanaians in general.
